Pre-Encounter Teaching:
PRAYER

Purpose: Since much in the encounter is done through prayer, we must teach about prayer. We must give reasons why we should pray and show how to pray.

What is prayer?
Communicating with God

Why pray?
James 5:13-18: ¡°Are any among you suffering? They should keep on praying about it¡¦Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. And their prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make them well. And anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed¡¦.¡±

**Are you suffering in any way? Do you need forgiveness? Do you need physical or emotional healing? Then you should pray and get prayer. **

Luke 22:40: ¡°Pray that you will not fall into temptation.¡±

**Do you ever struggle with temptation, eventually doing the wrong thing? You should pray and get prayer. **

Philippians 4:6: ¡°Don¡¯t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need¡¦¡±

**Do you have any needs or worries in your life? You should pray and get prayer. **

¡°For what great nation has a god as near to them as the Lord our God is near to us whenever we call on Him? Deuteronomy 4:7

I Peter 3:12: ¡°For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer¡¦¡±

Matthew 21:22: ¡°If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.¡±

**This promise is for you if you pray according to God¡¯s will. **

How do we pray?
Luke 11:1-4: ¡°Once when Jesus had been out praying, one of His disciples came to Him as He finished and said, ¡°Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.¡± He said, ¡°This is how you should pray: Father, may your name be honored. May your kingdom come soon. Give us our food day by day. And forgive our sins- just as we forgive those who have sinned against us. And don¡¯t let us yield to temptation.¡±

A – ADORATION –  ¡°God you are so awesome¡¦¡±
C – CONFESSION – ¡°I confess that I have sinned, please forgive me¡¦¡±
T – THANKSGIVING – ¡°God I thank you for¡¦¡±
S – SUPPLICATION – ¡°God I need¡¦¡± (PETITION) ; ¡°God help so and so¡¯s needs¡¦¡± (INTERCESSION)
Pre-Encounter Teaching:
THE BIBLE

Purpose: Since we base the encounter on the Word of God, and base all our teachings on it as well, we should give reasons to read the Bible and show them how to do it.

Why read the Bible?
The Bible is a handbook written by God (our Maker) for human life. The Bible is your instruction book for the proper functioning of your life, just like electrical appliances need handbooks. The Bible shows us how to have happiness, and what to stay away from in order to avoid destruction. Read it to avoid, and to fix problems.

II Timothy 3:16-17: ¡°All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God¡¯s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do.¡±

**Do you want to know where your life is crooked? Do you want God to straighten you out and teach you the right way so that you can make a difference in this world for Him? **

Hebrews 4:12: ¡°For the Word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are.¡±

**Sometimes it¡¯s hard to take our masks off to see who and what we really are, but it¡¯s worth it. Why live a lie? **

Joshua 1:8: ¡°Study this book of the law continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed (Then you will be prosperous and successful.).¡±

**Do you want to succeed (be prosperous and successful)? Have you been trying to be successful on your own? Has it worked out very well? **

Psalms 119:105: ¡°Your Word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path.¡±

**Do you need direction in your life? Find it in the Word. **

Have you let yourself be guided by the Word? Do you base everything in your life on the Word of God, or friends, or feelings? Don¡¯t just be guided by feelings or what seems right in your own eyes. It¡¯s easy to go the wrong way this way. Let God¡¯s Word guide you. Read it, study it, analize it, and do it. Then you will have success.

How do I do it?
Pick a place free of distractions
Decide on a plan (read 1-3 chapters a day starting in the New Testament)
Pray before you read to ask God to help you understand
Read
Mark any verses that speak to you
Keep a notebook and write down cool verses, thoughts, or what you got out of it
Pray thanking God for speaking to you
Apply what you learn
Pre-Encounter Teaching:
ATTITUDE

Objective: This is a time to address the right attitude of expectancy to have at an encounter.

Text: Matthew 20: 29-34

v. 29-30        Jesus will come near you in this encounter.
v. 30-31        Don¡¯t let distractions discourage you from crying out to God and getting your healing.
v. 32-33        When Jesus stops, know what you want Him to do for you.
v. 34        Jesus out of compassion will touch your life.

DO YOU NEED A TOUCH FROM GOD? WHAT DO YOU WANT HIM TO DO FOR YOU? WILL YOU LET EXCUSES OR  DISTRACTIONS STEAL YOUR BLESSING?

What God wants to do in your Encounter:

A willing God¡¦
Luke 5:12-13: ¡°Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.¡± Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. ¡°I am willing,¡± he said. ¡°Be clean!¡± And immediately the leprosy left him.¡±
Life more abundantly¡¦
John 10:10: ¡°I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.¡±
Old becomes new¡¦
2 Corinthians 5:17: ¡°If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!¡±
(not magic perfection, but change)
Nothing impossible for God¡¦
Matthew 19:26: ¡°With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.¡±
Able to do more than we expect¡¦
Ephesians 3:20: ¡°Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory¡¦¡±

DO YOU BELIEVE THAT GOD CAN AND WILL DO A MIRACLE IN YOU? WILL YOU LET HIM?

Activity: Write a letter to God telling Him what you want Him to do in you in this encounter. Ask Him to help you overcome distractions. Ask God to touch your life in this encounter. Tell Him that you will let Him into every area of your heart and life.
Pre-Encounter Teaching:
SALVATION

OPTION #1:

1. Who is good?
Romans 3:10: ¡° There is no one righteous, not even one.¡±

2. Who has sinned?
Romans 3:23: ¡° For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.¡±
ACTIVITY: HAVE THEM FILL OUT THE SIN QUESTIONAIRRE

3. God¡¯s price for sin:
Romans 6:23: ¡° For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.¡±

4. Our way out:
Romans 5:8: ¡° But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.¡±
Romans 10:9-10: ¡° If you confess with your mouth, ¡°Jesus is Lord,¡± and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.¡±

Sin Entered Through Adam¡¯s Sin: Genesis 3
Adam & Eve enjoyed good things: freedom, walk with God, only one rule, eternal life, knew only good, beautiful environment, had companionship, had purpose.
Satan made it sound like God was restricting them from something desirable. Satan said: There¡¯s no consequences for disobeying God, only rewards.¡±
Consequences of sin: shame, self-awareness, fear, the desire to hide, blame, punishment, curses, death, loss of eternal life, separation from God.
God¡¯s plan of salvation: v.15, 21 Prophesy of Jesus - skins: the first murder was blood shed to cover their nakedness. God covered them.
