제목	어느 빵집 아주머니의 재치 - 거져 주는 것이 손해가 아니다

어제 저녁 퇴근 길에 요즘 여러 모로 바쁘고 힘들어 하는 아내와
아빠 오기만을 눈 빠지게 기다리는 조나단이를 위해 빵집에 잠시 들러 빵을 사 갈까 싶어
불로동에 있는 작은 빵집을 방문하였습니다.

가게에 들어서자 늦은 시각이라 그런지 손님은 없었고,
주인 아주머니가 전화통화를 하고 계셨습니다.
인사를 하시긴했지만 제가 빵을 고르는데 도움을 주기 보다는 혼자 전화를 하고 계셨죠.
빵집에 들어가면 그 가게에서 잘 하는 빵이 있기 마련이고
중요한 가격 정보를 얻어야 하는데 보통은 주인 아저씨나 아주머니가 해 주시죠.

주인 아주머니라 급한 전화를 한고 계신다 싶어 2분 정도를 기다렸습니다.
그러니 아주머니도 미안하셨는지 손님이 계시다고 하면서 전화를 끊었습니다.
그리고서 설명을 해 주시려고 오시려는데 다시 전화가 온 겁니다.
그리고 다시 1분 정도 통화.

그 정도 되니 짜증이 좀 나더군요.
손님이 일부러 기다리고 있는데 전화를 빨리 끊어 주셔야 하는데 계속하고 계시니 말이죠.
그래서 속으로는 "다음부터는 이 집에 오지 말아야지"하는 생각을 했습니다.
아주머니는 전화를 끊고 아주 미안하시다는 말씀을 하시고,
제가 빵을 사는 것을 도와 주셨습니다.

이윽고 계산을 하고 나서 아주머니가 "오늘 같이 추운 날 옷을 이렇게 입고 오셨나요?"
하시면서 제 걱정을 해 주시고, 아까 전화를 너무 오래 해서 너무 죄송하다고
작은 빵을 하나 더 넣어 주시는 겁니다.

그러니 마음이 풀어지면서 아주머니가 정말 미안하게 생각하고 계시는 구나 싶은 마음이 들면서
제 수중에 들어온 작은 빵 하나에 마음이 흐웃해 지는 겁니다.

결국 아내가 이 빵들을 먹어 보고는 맛있다고 해서 이 빵집을 계속 이용해야 겠다 싶은 마음이 들었지요.

고객의 마음을 상하게 하기는 쉬워도 다시 돌리는 것은 아주 어렵습니다.
그러나 이처럼 의외의 작은 방법으로 금방 회복할 수도 있습니다.

작은 경험이었지만 다음 두 사항을 여실히 깨닫는 작은 경험이었습니다.

첫째 불가항력적인 일 혹은 직원의 개인적인 급한 일로 인한 고객 불편함은 어쩔 수 없으니
솔직하게 고객에게 잘못을 인정하는 것이 좋았다는 것입니다.
둘째 고객이 느낀 불쾌감이나 불편을 어떤 식으든 보상하려는 노력은
적대적으로 돌아설 수 있는 고객을 충성 고객으로 만들 수 있는 잠재력을 가지고 있다는 것입니다.

Hong Kong police had previously set a target of installing 2,000 new surveillance cameras this year, and potentially more than that each subsequent year. The force plans to eventually introduce facial recognition to these cameras, security chief Chris Tang told local media in July adding that police could use AI in the future to track down suspects. In a statement to CNN, the Hong Kong Police Force said it was studying how police in other countries use surveillance cameras, including how they use AI. But it’s not clear how many of the new cameras may have facial recognition capabilities, or whether there’s a timeline for when the tech will be introduced. Tang and the Hong Kong police have repeatedly pointed to other jurisdictions, including Western democracies, that also make wide use of surveillance cameras for law enforcement. For instance, Singapore has 90,000 cameras and the United Kingdom has more than seven million, Tang told local newspaper Sing Tao Daily in June. While some of those places, like the UK, have started using facial recognition cameras, experts say these early experiments have highlighted the need for careful regulation and privacy protections.
